The USPTO denied Mariah Carey’s attempt to be crowned Queen of Christmas.
Carey, 52, desires to trademark the hugely popular single “All I Want For Christmas Is You” for use on merchandise including fragrances and clothing.
Darlene Love and Elizabeth Chan successfully challenged Mariah Carey’s 2021 trademark application for the word ‘Christmas’, which they felt was unfair.
Chan declared in a statement to TMZ: “It is improper for someone to try and control the title ‘Queen of Christmas’ solely with material gain as our season should be about giving, not taking.”
Carey continues to benefit financially from her hit single each season. Recently, she had a dispute with Martha Stewart over promoting the song on All Hallows’ Eve - as reported by The Daily Wire.
Stewart implored Mariah not to give up Thanksgiving, insisting many people still love turkey. He declared himself a traditionalist with “a twist” during an appearance on The Today Show.
Carey responded, affirming Thanksgiving would still be celebrated despite her early Christmas enthusiasm. “Dearest Martha!! NEVER will I give up Thanksgiving!!” she declared. “Let’s start getting festive now!”
She jokingly added, “I eagerly await an invite to your Thanksgiving celebration - especially if Snoop’s attending!”
Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” (1994) is the most successful festive single by a female artist, having sold 16 million copies globally.
